Both 2020 vintages, the Dog & Pony Desperado takes an Italian slant with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 20% Sangiovese, all from the Siletto Vineyard. It spends over 24 months in 25% new French oak. This Super Tuscan-like wine is typically only available at the winery and sells for $34.
The Dog & Pony La Nina, on the other hand, leans much more towards Spain with a blend of 65% Tempranillo and 35% Grenache. It also spends over 24 months in French oak, with 25% new, and again the wine is typically only available from the winery at a price of around $32.

The 2020 Dog & Pony Desperado opens with a lovely aroma of strawberry, cherry and a little spice plus some black pepper, vanilla and cigar box. It's a savory start!
Tasting reveals a full-bodied, smooth blend full of delicious tart, juicy fruit that is wonderfully tinged with spice. All those same flavors from the nose also appear in the mouth in a very harmonious way. I love the addition of Sangiovese here which makes this reminiscent of a good Super Tuscan.
It ends dry, grippy and very long with lots of lingering juicy fruit. It was just as good on day 2. This is wonderful!

The 2020 Dog & Pony La Nina welcomes with a harmonious and enticing aroma of spicy red and black fruit with touches of vanilla.
Taking a sip reveals this to be a lovely, extremely tasty blend. Featuring juicy fruit, good acidity and great balance this is fun and delicious to drink with a good amount of complexity to boot. This one has plenty of oak influence but it's done very well (think Rioja or Ribera del Duero).
It ends dry, very long, chewy and delicious with lots of lingering spicy, juicy fruit. It was even slightly better on day 2. This is another wonderful wine!
