Miner Family Winery is back and today we have a pair of excellent wines for the Rhone lovers.

- Two bottles of the 2021 Miner Napa Valley Syrah from the Fortunati Vineyard in the Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley. 100% Syrah, the wine spends 15 months in Burgundian cooperage French oak (25% new). Just 308 cases were produced and it normally retails for $65 a bottle!
- Two bottles of the 2021 Miner Paso Robles Grenache from the Terra Bella Vineyard at 1,800 feet of elevation in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles. 100% Grenache, the wine spends 6 months in neutral French oak. Just a tiny 187 cases were produced and the wine normally retails for $45 a bottle!

The fruit for this Syrah displays classic northern Rhône structure and flavors with ripe, dark fruit characteristics and just the right amount of smoky spice. Great with grilled meat and game.

And now on to our review:
The 2021 Miner Napa Valley Syrah opens with a quite an attractive, savory aroma of dark fruit with wonderful spice and herbal notes plus some minty, smoky notes.
It’s a great start although it does need some time to open up when tasting so be patient and you will be greatly reward. Tasting reveals all those same flavors as the nose wrapped up in a smooth and silky mouthfeel. Spicy with more dark juicy fruit, this is a very nice example of Syrah.
It ends dry, juicy, a bit grippy and very long with lots and lots of long-lasting spice. It was just as good on day 2. It’s drinking wonderful right now after a bit of air, but cellaring for a few years will also be rewarded. Excellent!

Our Grenache has floral, spicy aromas on the nose and strawberry-raspberry flavors on the palate. Our winemaking team recommends enjoying this lighter-bodied red just below cellar temperature.
Grenache pairs well with a variety of dishes from paella to grilled pork tenderloin.

And now on to our review:
The 2021 Miner Paso Robles Grenache opens with pleasing aromas of strawberry plus nice touches of cinnamon and other baking spice plus some mint, licorice and more. Intriguingly, it smells like it has more oak influence than it actually does. It’s a great start that definitely makes you want to take a sip.
When you do, you’ll find a smooth, medium-bodied Grenache that is very juicy with some zesty blood orange notes plus other flavors similar to the nose. The wine has great depth and is very food friendly. This is a really nice example of the variety.
It ends dry, juicy and extremely long and lingering on the tart, lip-smacking finish and was just as good on day 2. This is a fun one to drink! Meant for more immediate consumption than the Syrah, this one still has a year or two of peak drinking but I wouldn’t cellar it much longer than that.
