We’ve got another unique one today, where a grape variety is produced in a style you wouldn’t expect, but the results are delicious!
In a previous Insider Deal, we featured a Vin Gris, which is a red grape variety produced like a white wine (the juice has little to no contact with the grape skins).
Today, we’ve got a white grape variety produced in the style of a red or rosé wine where the juice stays in contact with the grape skins, in this case for just a short time. Sometimes called an orange wine, the skin contact adds flavors and textures you don’t always find in a white wine. Let’s check it out.

From the winery:
Bright, typical colour, with a mango-coloured rim. The 2024 Attems Ramato is delicately floral on the nose, with notes of broom and Alpine rose. When swirled in the glass, a distinctive aroma of green apple comes to the fore, carrying through into each sip. The body is light yet precise and complex, with a balanced acidity that flows nicely over the palate. The finish is characterised by the minerality associated with the area, with hints of currants.

The 2024 Attems Ramato Friuli Pinot Grigio opens with a richer aroma than most Pinot Grigio. Loaded with lemon and other citrus plus tropical fruit, cherry and even a bit of an almost garrigue-like note, it’s very nice.
The wine tastes really delightful and features a smooth, vibrant mouthfeel, good balance and great depth. The tart and juicy fruit tends more towards the tropical fruit notes in the mouth.
It ends with a smooth, dry, long, tart, tangy, lip-smacking finish. This is a really unique and delicious wine. Find it and try it.
