Since 1999, Frog’s Tooth Vineyards and Winery has been growing, crafting, pouring, and sharing our handcrafted small batch wines from the Sierra Foothills. What we don’t grow on our beautiful 10-acre vineyard in Copperopolis, CA, we source from other local growers who share our passion.
From our inviting tasting room and patio, a short walk from Main Street in Murphys, we have been pouring our wines since 2007. Our winemaker Will SavoieHoule has brought a new youthful passion to crafting delicious wines. Each and every varietal is painstakingly hand-sorted to ensure only the best fruit makes it into our award-winning wines.
Will’s passion for bringing out the best that our fruit has to offer is contagious. We encourage you to come by our tasting room and enjoy a glass on our patio or join us for one of our club member parties at our Vineyard.
Every sip of our wines is a true taste of the Sierra Foothills!
All of our fruit is hand-sorted across a 4’ x 10’ stainless table. At this point, we sort out all overripe, under-ripe, mold, mildew, or anything that is MOG… material other than grapes. This allows us to use only about 1/10 of the amount of sulfites as other full bin dumping establishments.
Tasting Notes: Bing cherry, blackberry, and sage. Deep, dark, and luscious. Great with BBQ in the summer and roasted meat or pot roast in winter. Estate grown and bottled.

And now on to our review:
The 2021 Frog’s Tooth Petite Sirah pours dark and inky in the glass, just like a good Petite Sirah should.
It opens with loads of dark fruit (blackberry and blackcurrant mainly) with a dried fruit component as well plus plenty of well-integrated baking spice, licorice, leather, and more. It’s quite attractive and savory in an almost hedonistic way. You know you’re in for something special right from the first sniff.
Tasting reveals a big, full-bodied, rich and flavorful Petite Sirah but not in over-the-top way thanks to its excellent balance. It features a smooth and velvety mouthfeel and just an abundance of flavors that are similar to the nose. This is a big, deep and delicious wine.
It ends dry, vibrant, tannic, grippy and quite long with lots of lively, rich, juicy fruit and spice that lasts and lasts. I love it and it was just as good on day 2.

2022 Frog’s Tooth Petite Sirah, Sierra Foothills
Tasting Notes: Originally, Professor Durif cultivated this grape in the Rhone Region of France. However, it languished because of this humid region. In the 1960s, Concanon Vineyards in Livermore “rebirthed” this varietal. Classic Americanization… same deep dark fruit and wine as Syrah… individual grapes are much smaller and grow in a tight cluster, “let’s call it Little Sirah”, they said. No small mouthfeel here! Dark fruit flavors of plum and black cherries! Finishing with great spicy notes.

And now on to our review:
The 2022 Frog’s Tooth Petite Sirah smells similar to the 2021 with savory aromas of plum, licorice, blackberry, cedar, black cherry, baking spice and a little dried fruit. It’s a great start!
The wine tastes rich, juicy, savory and spicy. It’s maybe not quite as big as the 2021 (which is to say it’s just Big, not BIG) but still full of deep flavors and lovely balance.
It ends dry, vibrant, juicy, a bit tannic and grippy and quite long with lots of lively, rich fruit that lasts and lasts. It was just as good on day 2. This is another wonderful wine!
