Learn more about our winery direct INSIDER DEALS here. This might be one of the most slam dunk 10 Taste Ratings we've ever given, and you can get it for OVER HALF OFF for the next two days. The J Dusi Paper Street The Narrator Red Blend is back!
That's right, J Dusi is back with a new vintage of this decadent blend from a very special vineyard, along with a savings of over $XX a bottle!
We were quite simply blown away by this Rhone-style blend the first time we offered it (the 2018 vintage). It was with a little trepidation, then, that we tasted the 2019 vintage. Could it possibly live up to the extremely high standard of the previous year? The answer came quickly - absolutely yes!
Comprised of 46% Mourvedre, 31% Grenache and 23% Syrah and aged 20 months in 100% French oak, no expense was spared in making this wine. And that includes the grapes from the very special Paper Street Vineyard in Paso Robles.
Here's how Mira Honeycutt of the Paso Robles Press describes the genesis of the vineyard in an article last year:
Leave it to Mike Dusi, Janell’s father and third-generation Paso vintner, to venture into this unapproachable parcel where others would not dare. But for him, unreachable as it was, it was perfect.
The veteran farmer saw a diamond in the rough. He recognized its potential. A perfect mix of steep hillsides and the limestone deposits, this is where great quality fruit comes from, Janell declared, echoing her father’s belief in the abandoned ranch, then devoid of water or power. Although back in 2013, when Mike acquired this 360-acre parcel, his family thought he had gone bonkers, Janell recalled with a laugh.
For the Dusis, Paso’s multi-generational farming clan, it was a true family effort to navigate the many hurdles it took to turn the rough into a diamond. Over three years Mike and his sons Matt and Michael hauled dead trees with chains and bulldozers up steep hills, and, yes, there were accidents, like a tractor rolling off the hillsides.
“And someone lost a finger,” Janell recalled.
Today the likes of Turley, McPrice Meyers, Bodega de Edgar, Barton, Clos Solene and Robert Hall (as well as J Dusi) produce excellent single vineyard wines from this labor of love for the Dusi Family.
Honestly, the only possible downside to this wine is that just 450 cases were produced. I kicked myself for not buying enough of the 2018 vintage, I won't be making that mistake this time around.
The 2019 J Dusi Paper Street The Narrator Red Blend we are offering here normally retails for $68, although wine dot com is selling the 2017 vintage at the highly discounted price of just $67. (Such a deal!)
For the next day; however, Reverse Wine Snob readers won't pay anywhere near that price...

From the winery:
This one is all butter. The Narrator is like driving a Ferrari on a mountain road.
Fig on the nose, with soft tobacco. Take a sip and you’ll taste luxury in a glass. Silky smooth. The Mourvèdre – well, it’s badass. Heavy, imparting the meatiness of this wine that will coat your whole mouth and excite every taste bud. This one is perfect for an evening hanging out in lounge chairs with friends and a charcuterie board. You’ll finish the bottle before you know it and reach for more.
Farmed by the Dusi Family, our Paper Street Vineyard straddles Willow Creek and Adelaida AVAs in the hills of Paso Robles. Its virgin soils, steep slopes, and rugged terrain make for intensely bold and saturated wines.
After years of searching, in 2013 Mike Dusi found a 360-acre parcel of land in the Willow Creek AVA. It was hilly, rocky, covered in dead trees, and had been ignored for many years. It was a brutal piece of land – and in his eyes, perfect. The family thought he had gone a little crazy, but that was just the beginning.
A paper street is a road or street that appears on maps but does not exist in reality. The piece of land off Kiler Canyon was quite literally on one of these. Mike Dusi saw something special, and the Paper Street Vineyard was born. For 3 years he worked with sons Matt and Michael to clear the land and plant the vineyard. They pulled the dead trees out with chains and bulldozers. At one point they lost a bulldozer off the steepest terrain, and someone lost part of a finger along the way. They cleared the soil – by hand. The entire family, 3 generations’ worth, worked up at almost 2200 feet, walking the dirt to pick up sticks and stones. As with most Dusi endeavors, it was a true family undertaking. Of the 360 acres, 110 was cultivatable. Those 110 acres are steep, rocky, and full of limestone.

The 2019 J Dusi Paper Street The Narrator Red Blend opens with very pleasing notes of dark fruit, licorice, spice, a little tobacco, a touch of a raisin and fig note and much more as the wine breathes. While the aroma is quite good and makes you expect you're in for a treat, it just takes one sip to confirm that and more.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be pure decadence. It begins with an explosion of rich, dark, juicy, savory fruit that combines with wonderful spice notes. This balanced, full-bodied beauty is as smooth as a baby's bottom! It also an energy to it that you can't help but love.
It ends with an incredibly long, juicy, spicy, grippy, savory, mouth-watering finish. If you can make this bottle last until day two, more power to you, because it took every bit of our willpower to save just a few drops. (And it was perhaps even a bit better on day two, believe it or not.)
This might be the easiest 10 Taste Rating we've ever given. My guess is that in a few years, as the reputation of this young vineyard progresses even more, you're going to be hard pressed to find any wines from it that are anywhere close to as low as today's deal price. In other words, stock up now, while you can.
