Locations E Spanish Wine – An A+

By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: May 15, 2018

Innovation never tasted so good, the Locations E Spanish Wine.

Locations E Spanish Wine - An A+

An unconventional blend of Garnacha, Tempranillo, Monastrell, and Carignan from Priorat, Jumilla, Toro, Rioja and Ribera del Duero, Spain. The wine was aged in barrels for 10 months.

Sample submitted for review. The Locations E Spanish Wine has an SRP of $19 and is available for as low as $14. Imported by Locations Wines. 20,000 cases produced.

Spain can be pretty buttoned down when it comes to their wine. A region like Rioja, for example, has strict rules on all aspects of winemaking in order for a bottle to bear the Rioja name. And they make some fabulous wines for sure. The idea behind the Locations Wine series from Dave Phinney; however, is to see what happens when you throw all those rules away and put the best each region has to offer in one bottle. If today’s wine and the other Locations Wines we’ve reviewed are any indication, lots of good things can happen, that’s what.

The first thing you notice about the Locations E Spanish Wine by Dave Phinney is that the bottle does not bear a traditional vintage. Instead, they carry a number, in this case E-5, indicating which release of the bottle you are drinking. Don’t let this non-traditional touch on the outside of the bottle throw you — there are all kinds of good things inside you don’t want to miss out on.

The wine opens with a positively enticing aroma of plum, black cherry, spice, pepper, vanilla and more. Tasting shows it to be rich, juicy and so delicious. With tons of fruit flavor (dark berry and plum) and just the right amount of everything else (pepper, spice, hints of tobacco and vanilla) this wine is a winner. It ends dry and long. How good is this wine? The word hedonistic comes to mind — it’s just that pleasurable to drink. Good luck not finishing off the entire bottle. The E-5 might be a tad bit oakier than previous vintages, so give it a little time to breathe to really enjoy it at its best. Bulk Buy!
