As we mentioned when we recently reviewed the Bodegas Mustiguillo Mestizaje, Bobal is a little-known grape outside of Spain and Sardinia. With extremely dark skins, it is also thought to be one of the highest in terms of levels of antioxidants. Let's check this one out.
The 2016 Marques De Colbert Reserva begins with a shy aroma of fruit and a touch of spice. It continues to be rather muted even with some time in the glass.
Taking a sip reveals a simple, tasty, fruity blend with some strawberry and black cherry and a little touch of spice. It's pretty easy to drink but that's about it. It does benefit from some air when tasting -- I wasn't too impressed upon pop and pour but it improved greatly after an hour or two.
It ends dry and with decent length. It just squeaks by with a Recommended Buy rating but there are better options at this price. That said, it is still a nice way to experience the Bobal grape which can be hard to find.
