Matchbook Petite Sirah - Substantially Delicious

By: Jon Thorsen Published: January 1, 2021 Last Updated: May 26, 2021

Petite Sirah plus two more of our favorite grapes (Tannat and Petit Verdot) at a great Costco price, the Matchbook Petite Sirah.

Matchbook Petite Sirah - Substantially Delicious

76% Petite Sirah, 17% Tannat, 6% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon from Dunnigan Hills, California. The wine was aged in a variety of French, American and Hungarian oak barrels for 16 months.

The wine has an SRP of $17 and an average wine-searcher price of $15 but we grabbed it at Costco for just $10.99. 6,443 cases were produced.

    From the bottle:

Family owned. Estate Grown. The Giguiere Family crafts single-site wines from the rolling Dunnigan Hills. Grown on red, rocky soils our Petite Sirah is a rich, intense wine with flavors of black pepper and spice layered over ripe plum and blackberry.

Produced & Bottled by JL Giguiere
    14.5% Alcohol

Wow, what a mix of grapes, these are some of our absolute favorite!

The 2018 Matchbook Petite Sirah begins with a pleasing aroma of plum, blackberry and other berry flavors plus cola, licorice, and nice hints of peppery spice and vanilla.

The wine tastes deliciously tannic and full of rich, juicy, deep flavors. This is a substantial wine! It features a smooth and luscious mouthfeel with similar flavors to the nose along with a bit more of a baking spice component in the mouth.

It finishes dry, long and grippy. This is a lovely example of Petite Sirah beefed up (if that's possible) by the addition of the Tannat and Petit Verdot. Delicious!

    2018 Matchbook Petite Sirah
