Member’s Mark Private Reserve Carneros Chardonnay Review

An easy drinking example of Chardonnay (and not a butter bomb), we review the Member’s Mark Private Reserve Carneros Chardonnay from Sam’s Club.

Member's Mark Private Reserve Carneros Chardonnay Review

Chardonnay from the Sonoma County side of Carneros in California.

The wine is produced by Navigator Wine Collection, which used to be Precision Wine Co., a familiar name to world of private label wines at all the big retailers. The head winemaker is Mike Rayner who used to be the winemaker for Cameron Hughes, among others. Navigator was also behind the Member’s Mark Private Reserve Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon we recently reviewed.

The 2024 Member’s Mark Private Reserve Carneros Chardonnay is available exclusively at Sam’s Club and retails for just $9.97.

From Sam’s Club:

Carneros, Sonoma County

Aroma: Ripe tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, mingling with notes of citrus blossoms and a subtle hint of vanilla. It’s delicate, yet inviting—the perfect promise of a harmonious palate.

Taste: This chardonnay truly exemplifies the region’s signature style, offering a balanced interplay between vibrant acidity and luscious fruit flavors. Your taste buds will be greeted with juicy pear, crisp apple and a touch of lemon zest. Plus, there’s a nuanced creaminess that hints at a subtle oak influence. With its excellent structure, medium body, and smooth, lingering finish, this wine is a true delight.

Food Pairings: Enjoy it on its own or pair it with a range of dishes, from grilled seafood to creamy pasta dishes.

2024 Member's Mark Private Reserve Carneros Chardonnay Back Label

The 2024 Member’s Mark Private Reserve Carneros Chardonnay opens with a light but pleasing aroma of citrus, touches of tropical fruit and vanilla cream. It’s a good start.

I was worried this wine was going to be a butter bomb but it only took one sip to put my fears to rest. It’s not at all and actually quite nice. Smooth and easy to drink it features juicy fruit similar to the nose with a bit more of the tropical side coming through, plus it has decent depth and good enough acidity.

It ends a bit tart and with good length. This is a great price for an easy to drink Chardonnay.
