Moon X Red Wine - Rocket Your Way To Good Taste

By: Jon Thorsen Published: March 29, 2022 Last Updated: November 23, 2022

A good buy for the inexpensive, slightly sweet and oaky red blend lovers, the Moon X Red Wine from Trader Joe's.

Moon X Red Wine - Rocket Your Way To Good Taste

A blend of Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel from California.

The MoonX Red Blend is available exclusively at Trader Joe's and sells for just $6.99. It is made by Delicato Family Wines.

    From the bottle:

This juicy, super dense wine is inspired by the total blackness of a new moon - a lunar phase occurring when the sun, earth and the moon are all aligned. Loaded with intense flavors of blackberries, black cherry and dark chocolate, MoonX is the perfect wine to enjoy with roasted meats, barbequed anything, chocolates or just by itself.

Vinted and Bottled by Trader Moon
    13.5% Alcohol

It's been several vintages since we've checked out this Trader Joe's classic! Let's see if anything has changed.

The 2020 Moon X Red Blend begins with an aroma of dark berry fruit, cocoa, vanilla, sweet spice and a bit of earthiness. It's nice but there isn't really anything remarkable about it at this point.

Taking a sip reveals a sweeter, juicier, richer but still balanced side of this wine. Loaded with well-integrated licorice, baking spice, vanilla and chocolate, this is crowd-pleasing stuff. It ends with more late developing spice on the long finish.

I'd put this one squarely in the slightly sweet and oaky mass-produced red blend category but it works well. And judging by how often it seems to sell out at Trader Joe's it seems to be quite popular.

    2020 Moon X Red Blend

    Taste: 7 (87-88 points)      Cost: 9
    OVERALL RATING: 7.5
