The 2012 Murphy-Goode California Red Blend begins with a pleasant aroma of black cherry, sweet raspberries and bit of vanilla and licorice. The Zin leads the way when tasting this smooth and soft wine that also has lots of sweet, rich fruit and plenty of spice. That sweet, tart fruit lingers for a good amount of time on the finish. This is a really nice example of very popular style right now -- a California red blend that is rich, slightly sweet and has a good amount of oak influence. Luckily it also manages to avoid the manufactured feel that plagues so many of its competitors.
