From the bottle:
In the granite soil of this valley, tucked between the mountains and the Atlantic, grows a sprawling vineyard which has coexisted over the course of several generations in perfect unison with the beauty of the camellia trees. On this extraordinary estate, full of natural harmony, wines rich in character are born, wines which we are sharing with Afectus.

We've highlighted a number of single varietal bottlings from Vinho Verde over the last couple years, urging people to seek out these somewhat rare (at least in the US) treats. Today we have another made solely from the Loureiro grape, a variety that prospers in the Lima subregion we discussed just last week.
The 2015 Afectus Loureiro begins with a rather subdued aroma of citrus and tropical fruit that opens up a bit with some air. Taking a sip opens up a new world, revealing a lively, rich and sweet wine. More citrus and tropical fruit lead the way with some underlying minerality and a great mouthfeel. Balance and complexity also appear with a little time. This wine is a bit like the kid who you think may be a bit shy at first, but then quickly realize they are full of both sweetness and sass. It ends tangy with sweet fruit and mineral notes lingering in the mouth. A lovely and very drinkable wine that makes us wonder once again why we don't see more of these single varietal bottlings on store shelves.
