I had to chuckle a bit upon reading the label for this wine — you know you’re dealing with a higher-end California Cabernet when 16 months in 100% French oak qualifies as “restrained use”!
The 2014 Noble Tree Cabernet Sauvignon from the Wickersham Ranch Estate begins with beautiful aromas full of ripe red fruit, licorice and spice. Tasting the wine reveals it to be chocked full of juicy, ripe fruit (mostly red but also some blackberry and plum) along with more licorice and lots of cola notes. An excellent streak of spicy pepper takes over mid-palate and leads into the dry, tart and long finish on this medium-bodied wine. A bit reminiscent of Dr. Pepper at the end, this Cabernet is just what the doctor ordered!
