Six dollars well spent, the solid Bodega Norton Coleccion Malbec.
100% Malbec from Argentina. The wine has 8.2 g/L of residual sugar.
The Bodega Norton Coleccion Malbec has an SRP of $10 and is available exclusively at Trader Joe's for just $5.99. Imported by Guarachi Wine Partners.
Bodega Norton was founded in 1895. The estate winery is located at the foothills of the Andes, at altitudes ranging between 850 to 1100m above sea level. The climate at these altitudes is characterized by warm days and cool nights. This allows the grapes to mature slowly towards perfect ripeness, providing deep color, rich aromas and flavors.
This Malbec is a round, smooth and full-flavored wine. It has a purplish red color and spicy aromas. Balanced with smooth tannins, rich plums and cherries can be found in its delicate flavors. It is ideal to pair with grilled meat, chicken and pasta.
13.5% Alcohol
Time for another Trader Joe's exclusive from Bodega Norton! A couple weeks ago we highly recommended the Cabernet Sauvignon from this line and today we turn our attention to the Malbec.
The 2018 Bodega Norton Coleccion Malbec begins with a pleasant aroma of ripe black cherry, plum and black pepper. Tasting reveals more fruit as well as licorice notes and some earthiness. A nice spicy streak under the sweet, ripe fruit leads into the dry, medium-long finish.
Going in we would have thought this would have been our favorite between the two varieties (since we're talking about wine from Argentina after all) but we actually preferred the Cab. That said, while the Malbec won't blow your socks off it's still a solid wine at a great price. It's also a bit sweeter than your average Malbec which will probably make it quite popular. It just squeaks by with a Recommended Buy rating.
