Picking a wine based on the label is always a risky proposition but we really couldn't pass this one up. Not only did it have a nice label, but the bottle itself was very cool with its golf ball like texture. On top of that, Garnacha from Spain is almost always a solid pick so we figured we really couldn't go wrong. Let's see how we fared…
The 2016 Satis Dei Syrah Garnacha begins with pleasing aromas of sweet blackberry, plum, black cherry, bubble gum and lavender. Tasting the soft and smooth medium-bodied wine reveals it be a bit sweet, which I wasn't expecting, but it's quite good and easy to drink. This would make a good wine for fans of the popular sweet red blends who want to branch out into something a bit drier but still fruit forward. And even if you don't like the wine you kind of feel like you got your money's worth just from the fancy bottle. More dark fruit plus touches of chocolate lead into the dry, slightly grippy, medium-long finish.
