California Cab under $10 is a tough nut to crack. What you typically find at this price level is bulk wine blended from all across the state (which isn't in and of itself necessarily a bad thing). It's rather uncommon to actually see a regional designation smaller than "California" on these bottles, like today's wine which comes from Lodi.
As we've noted before, if you don't know anything else about two wines at the same price point, picking the one with the smallest regional designation is often a good bet. A little research on this one also shows that the 2017 vintage got a pretty respectable 88 point rating and Best Buy designation from Wine Enthusiast magazine.
The 2017 Thomas Allen Selections Cabernet Sauvignon opens with loads of black cherry and some really nice spice notes. Tasting the wine reveals a smooth mouthfeel and flavors similar to the nose with nicely integrated spice and touches of vanilla and mocha. It ends dry and with good length. It should pair quite nicely with a cheeseburger.
This is a pretty nice and very inexpensive everyday drinking option for the California Cab lover, which is not an easy thing to find.
