Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley - Get It

By: Jon Thorsen Published: July 25, 2019 Last Updated: June 1, 2021

Napa quality at a fraction of the price, the Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley Lot 85.

Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley - Get It

Cabernet Sauvignon from Knights Valley, Sonoma County, California.

Knights Valley is a prestigious AVA known for its excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. It sits in between Napa Valley, Alexander Valley and the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. Very little, if any, Cab made here sells for less than $20. (You probably recognize the name from one of the several, expensive Beringer Vineyards Knights Valley offerings.)

The Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is available exclusively at Trader Joe's and sells for just $14.99. It is part of their limited edition Platinum Reserve line and as such only 2,500 cases were produced. We don't expect this one to last very long on the shelves.

    From the bottle:

    2,500 cases produced.

    14.9% alcohol

The 2017 Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley Lot 85 begins with a classic Cab aroma full of dark, ripe fruit and lots of vanilla. Taking a sip reveals a smooth, ripe and tasty full-bodied wine with more dark fruit (blackberry, plum and black cherry mainly) and still plenty of vanilla. Touches of oaky spice, cola and black pepper lead into the dry, long, grippy finish. With lots of flavor, good structure and all the classic Cab components, this is Napa quality at a fraction of the price.

We should also note that the Grand Reserve version of this wine, the Lot #99 also from Knight's Valley that sells for $12.99, is not nearly as good as this one and not a wine that we can recommend so make sure you are buying the Platinum Reserve version.
