Trader Joe's Reserve Paso Robles Grenache Review

Grenache from Paso Robles, California.

The wine is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s and like all of the Reserve level wines is priced at $9.99.

From the bottle:

2023 Trader Joe’s Reserve Paso Robles Grenache
Lot #272

Vibrant nose of strawberries, raspberries and cherry compote with gentle tannins and notes of juicy red fruits that carry through the finish.

Produced and Bottled by Beckett Family
14.4% Alcohol

The Beckett family is very well known in Paso Robles as the founders and owners of Peachy Canyon Winery, as well as Thibido Winery. They also started and then later sold Chronic Cellars. All of those make some excellent wines.

Based on the produced and bottled by designation on the label of this wine, it doesn’t necessarily come from their own vineyards, but the wine was fermented and made by them. (You can read more about how we know that in our article How To Choose A Good Bottle Of Wine.)

We previously enjoyed the 2023 Trader Joe’s Reserve Paso Robles Adelaida District Zinfandel, which was also produced by the Beckett Family, so all signs are positive on this one. Of course, the true test is what the wine tastes like. Let’s check it out.

The 2023 Trader Joe’s Reserve Paso Robles Grenache Lot 272 opens with mainly strawberry notes with a little tart raspberry and cherry too. Time in the glass also reveals hints of spice and some floral notes. It’s a nice start.

Taking a sip reveals this to be a lovely little wine and very nice example of the variety. Fresh and juicy, this medium-bodied wine is smooth and easy to drink. It features good tannic structure, some depth on the bright, fresh fruit and a nice bit of spice. We love Grenache and this is a great example for the price.

It ends dry, juicy, quite long and a bit grippy on the finish and was similar on day 2. I love this!
