Learn more about our winery direct INSIDER DEALS here.If you've never bought one of our deals, trust me, this is the one you're waiting for. Almost 50% off (a $65 savings with shipping) on four bottles of exceptional and extremely age-worthy wine from the guy who literally wrote the book on winemaking.
Now this is what we're talking about! We've really been delighted to be able to bring you some of our favorite wines through our Insider Deal program. And as good as those past deals have been, with this deal we're cranking it up to 11.
Today you've got a chance to experience four bottles, 2 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon and 2 bottles of Merlot, that typically don't even come close to falling in our price range. These are very special wines made by the famed Clark Smith, the guy who literally wrote the book on winemaking. So special, in fact, we rated them both with a Taste Rating of 10!
These are small production beauties (just a couple hundred cases each) built to last. Both wines, despite having 8 and 9 years of age, are still very young. And as excellent as they are now, this is the deal to buy multiple packs, as we plan to do ourselves, and crack one open every few years for the next decade or two just to partake in the fascinating evolution to come.
In other words, we don’t expect this deal to last until Tuesday so if you want in, you better act fast.
Available shipping states include: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WV, WI and WY.
This is a limited time, winery direct offer facilitated by our friends at Wine Country Connect. Sale ends Tuesday March 3 at noon (PST) unless it sells out sooner. Shipping is a flat $5 no matter how many 4-packs you buy! Clicking on the buy button above will take you to the site winedealmaker.com for checkout. If you don't see the embedded buy box click here to order. The wines will ship 5-7 days after the conclusion of the offer.
One more note before we get on to the individual wines. As you'll see in our reviews below, if you open these wines now it's best to give them a good amount of air (even a full day) to be at their best, especially the Cabernet. It is also; however, an absolutely fascinating experience to pop them open now and taste. Then come back a few hours later and note the change. And then to cork the bottle and leave it on the counter until the next evening and taste again - the transformation is absolutely phenomenal and a window into the excellent ageability of these wines.
First up we've got the 2012 Two Jakes of Diamonds Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 15. This deal includes two bottles.
This wine normally retails for $30 but you're getting it here for just $17.50. (Factoring in shipping costs you're saving over $16 a bottle!) It is composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (Clone 15) from the famed Diamond Ridge Vineyard in Clear Lake, Lake County, California. The wine spends 14 months in neutral French oak. Only 199 cases were produced.
From the bottle:
Clone 15 - Of the dozen Cabernet Sauvignon clones planted at our ranch, Clone 15 is the most delicious and the most complete. Oozing with black cherry flavors, its dense, solid tannins make it a perfect accompaniment to veal parmesan, grilled tri-tip, or steak bearnaise.
Cooling breezes from the nearby lake preserve generous berry flavors, while our volcanic soils impart refreshing minerality. After farming together for more than fifty years, my father and I discovered this gem of a vineyard. - Jake Stephens

The nose on the 2012 Two Jakes of Diamonds Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit muted at first and needs a good bit of air to open up but such is often the case with wines like these that are built to age. The more time it has in the glass the more expressive it gets. After a few hours it is full of black cherry, touches of cedar, vanilla and chocolate. Further notes of licorice, caramel and more come out on day 2.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth with great depth of flavor and lots and lots of firm tannins. It's really a fascinating development of flavors as you drink this slowly over a number of hours which is why it will be so interesting to see what happens with it over the next decade or so. It starts rather tight but by day 2 it is full of rich and expressive fruit with lots of layers. It ends dry, grippy and very long.
Upon popping and pouring I would rate this one a 9 but by the second day I had bumped my rating up to a 10.

The second wine in today's deal (of which you also get two bottles) is the 2011 Two Jakes of Diamonds Merlot.
Again, this wine normally retails for $30 but you're getting it here for just $17.50. (Factoring in shipping costs you're saving over $16 a bottle!) It is composed of 100% Merlot (Clone 181) from the famed Diamond Ridge Vineyard in Clear Lake, Lake County, California. The wine spends 26 months in neutral French oak. Only 275 cases were produced.
From the bottle:
The persistent sunny rays of high altitude embellish Merlot with bright pomegranate aromas and stimulate production of extravagant color and structure, framed here by elegant nuances of French oak toffee and cashew. A delicious complement to grilled steak, lamb chops or duck breast.

The 2011 Two Jakes of Diamonds Merlot begins with a bit fruitier and jammier aroma than the Cab. You'll find lots of black cherry, raspberry and other red fruits while continued swirling brings out lots of intriguing spice notes. Touches of vanilla, chocolate, cola, licorice, mint and even more reveal themselves as it has even more time to breathe.
Wow, this is just delicious on the palate with tons of rich, juicy fruit, firm tannins and again very deep flavors similar to the nose. This one is a bit more ready to drink right out of the bottle than the Cab but also has serious aging potential. Once again, it'll be fascinating to see how it develops over the next 10 years.
It ends dry, very long, a bit chewy, and very satisfying with some underlying mineral notes. A strong 9 right out of the bottle that gets bumped up to a 10 by day 2.
