The Diamond Ridge Vineyard in Clear Lake grows Petite Sirah like no other spot we've tasted. Add to that Clark's extensive experience and winemaking expertise and you're in for a treat.
Both of these wines have some significant age on them as well, being a 2010 and 2013. The 2010 spent 36 months in neutral French oak. The 2013 spent 78 months (yes you read that right) in neutral French oak. And while they are both drinking wonderfully now, they will also continue to improve for at least the next 5-10 years. (Good luck resisting drinking them for that long though.)

The 2010 Two Jakes of Diamonds Petite Sirah begins with wonderful aromas of black cherry and blueberry along with lots of varied secondary notes of dried herbs, flowers, and spice. The nose becomes even more expressive the more air it gets so give it a good decant or plenty of time in the glass. As you do hints of vanilla, cedar, licorice and more reveal themselves as well.
Yum! This is a super delicious, deep, dark and rich wine in the mouth that is full of ripe berry fruit. And as good as it is right now, it's still a little tight when first opened. This could be just a massive (yet still wonderfully balanced) wine in a few more years! More evidence of this aging potential is that everything gets cranked up another half a notch on day 2.
It ends with a dry, chewy, extremely long and absolutely delicious finish. What a fabulous example of one of our favorite varieties.

The 2013 Two Jakes of Diamonds Petite Sirah offers much more of the same deliciousness but with some added complexity from the 78 months in oak barrels.
It begins with just a beautiful aroma of dark fruit and wonderfully integrated spice along with lots of secondary notes similar to the 2010.
Taking a sip reveals a wonderfully rich, juicy and tasty wine that just comes alive in your mouth. And as big, delicious and beautifully balanced as it is right now something tells me it will be even better in 5-10 years, which is pretty amazing at this price point - buying a 7 year old wine that probably won't even peak for another decade.
This just an amazing example of one of our favorite varieties. Full of lively minerality, it's also wonderfully nuanced with the significant barrel time adding a whole 'nother dimension. I wish I could make a bottle last more than a day just to see how it develops because it just keeps getting better and better the more air it gets.

Two perfect 10's, these wines might be pure Petite Sirah perfection! And just to be clear my 10 rating on both of these wines is as of right now, not the expected rating in a 5-10 years, which means these two might just be going to 11.
