The 2016 Columbia Crest H3 Merlot begins with an attractive aroma of black cherry, blackberry, spice and vanilla. The medium-bodied wine tastes a touch sweeter than I was expecting but has a really nice soft, velvety mouthfeel along with plenty of good blackberry fruit and touches of spice and vanilla. It also features lots of oaky spice and more soft fruit on the quite long, satisfying finish. A well made wine, this is definitely crowd-pleasing stuff!
