Even better, we have two vintages of this beauty, the 2021 and 2022. The blends are slightly different – while both feature Roussanne and Viognier, the 2021 also uses Marsanne while the 2022 uses Grenache Blanc. Despite the differences, the wines are remarkably similar tasting and remarkably good – a bit like an aged oaked Chardonnay without the buttery notes.
95% barrel fermented (5% stainless steel) and aged 6 months in 30% new French oak, both wines are sourced from vineyards (including the Miner Estate) in Napa Valley, Paso Robles and the Alexander Valley. Only around 200 cases were made of each.

2021 and 2022 Miner The Iliad White Wine
The Iliad, our white Rhône-style blend, begins with a bright perfume of honeysuckle and acacia flowers and continues its epic tale with undertones of sandalwood and herbs.
With good acidity, concentration and balance, The Iliad boasts of flavors of apricot and a hint of citrus. The long, clean finish offers a structured minerality with a hint of tannin and cream.
Miner is a dynamic family-owned winery tucked along the eastern hills of the Oakville appellation in the heart of Napa Valley. Founded in 1998 by Dave and Emily Miner, Miner Family Winery crafts reserve-style wines by sourcing fruit from Napa Valley and other specially selected California vineyards.
Our winemaking team uses a combination of old world winemaking techniques and modern technology to make wines that reflect the unique characteristics of individual vineyards or “terroir” where specific varietals grow best. This fusion of superb vineyard sites and thoughtful winemaking allows Miner to deliver elegant, expressive wines.

And now on to our review:
The 2021 Miner The Iliad Napa Valley White Wine opens with wonderful and varied nose of peach, pear, lemon, lime, touches of tropical fruits and lots of floral notes (honeysuckle and others) plus various herbal notes and touches of creme brulee and vanilla cream. Wow, what a start!
The wine tastes similar to nose but has a bit more tart fruit in the mouth. It also has good, juicy acidity and touches of well-integrated spice. It tastes a bit like an aged oaked Chardonnay but without the buttery notes.
This is a serious white wine! I’m guessing it can age quite nicely and get even better over the next couple years.
It ends with lots of lasting mineral notes under the tart fruit on the long, dry finish.
Even though the blend is a bit different on the 2022 Miner The Iliad White Wine, it tastes remarkably similar to the 2021 with just a bit more tropical fruit and floral notes. Just like that wine it is very Rhone-like and very age-worthy. (It is also labeled as “California” as a bit less of the blend comes from Napa Valley and more from Paso Robles and Alexander Valley.)
