• 2 bottles of the 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Ricci Vineyard Carneros Pinot Noir that comes entirely from a small, family-owned vineyard on the Sonoma side of Carneros that has been lovingly farmed by the Ricci family for over 100 years. A combination of 777 and Pommard clones, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak. Just a tiny 278 cases were produced and it has a very reasonable SRP of only $36. We rate it at 93 points.
• 2 bottles of the 2020 Tin Barn Griffin’s Lair Reserve Pinot Noir, which is typically only available to the wine club. It comes from a family owned vineyard in the Petaluma Gap and is made up of the Swan, Pommard, 115, and 667 clones. Aged 10 months in 40% once used French oak and 60% twice used French oak, only a tiny 194 cases were produced. It normally retails for $52 a bottle. We also rate it at 93 points.

Tin Barn Vineyards celebrates those hidden treasures that lie off the map. Our wines highlight the true character of Sonoma County.

High atop the ridges of the Sonoma Coast, just off Tin Barn Road, lies a remote plot of Syrah vines. From this fog enshrouded slope, we sourced grapes for our very first wine and found inspiration for our name. That was back in 2000.

In the years since, winemaker Michael Lancaster and his business partners have made a fitting home in our own “tin barn” – a warehouse in rural Sonoma that serves as both cellar space and tasting room. Here, we craft and share our award winning, single vineyard wines that are cherished for their uncommon balance and elegance. Our tasting room offers guests a relaxed and unpretentious window into our winemaking process. Come visit!

Along the outskirts of Sonoma, on a foggy slope facing the San Pablo Bay, lies a small family estate farmed by the Ricci Family for more than a hundred years. The fruit we source from this vineyard is a combination of two clones, 777 and Pommard, resulting in a silky, supple Pinot Noir.

And now on to our review:

The 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Ricci Vineyard Carneros Pinot Noir pours a beautiful light red in the glass. It opens with a lovely, classic aroma of cherry, rhubarb, cola, baking spice and cranberry along with touches of tomato plant and earth. This is Pinot Noir through and through.

Tasting reveals lots of delicious, juicy cranberry and cherry along with licorice, cola, some light earthy flavors and nice touches of spice. Pretty much everything from the nose shows up in the mouth which is a very good thing. Plus, it’s all wrapped up in a wonderfully silky-smooth mouthfeel. This is VERY tasty.

It ends dry, very long and juicy with some spice at the very end. It might have even been a bit smoother on day 2 if that’s possible. This is a fabulous example of Carneros Pinot once again!

And now on to our review:

The 2020 Tin Barn Griffin’s Lair Reserve Pinot Noir opens with quite an attractive aroma of black cherry, cranberry, eucalyptus, a little baking spice and black tea plus a touch of earthy tomato plant and a rhubarb note. It’s complex and very cohesive and makes for a great start.

Tasting the light to medium-bodied wine reveals it to be smooth and round in the mouth with delicious fruit notes plus all those same touches from the nose. Very balanced and easy to drink, this is a complex, lovely and elegant example of Pinot Noir.

It ends dry and long with lots of lingering fruit. This is excellent and it was even a bit better on day 2. We also put this at the very high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 93 points.
