Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva – Montepulciano Love

By: Jon Thorsen Published: January 9, 2020 Last Updated: August 15, 2022

This is definitely not your typical simple Montepulciano but something much more complex and rewarding. The Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva.

Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva – Montepulciano Love

100% Montepulciano from Abruzzo, Italy. The wine was aged 12-18 months in 100% new French barriques.

Sample submitted for review. The Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva has an SRP of $32 and is available just under our limit at $19.99. Imported by Vintus LLC. 400,000 bottles produced.

    From the bottle:

The Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo represents an intense and remarkable expression of Abruzzo’s main variety. The 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo comes from 8 of the estate’s top parcels and truly represents the summit of what Montepulciano can achieve. Villa Gemma may be the most famous Montepulciano produced by Masciarelli, the only Italian wine to win the coveted Tre Bicchieri award 14 times (and counting), but many view the Marina Cvetic Montepulciano as its equal in quality, differing only in style, and often benefiting from the fact it is blended from parcels crossing a range of altitudes and soils.

    14.5% Alcohol

The 2016 Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva begins with a succulent and distinctively Italian aroma of dark fruit and lots of spice along with dried herbs and touches of leather, cedar, smoke and tobacco. Tasting reveals excellently integrated spice along with deep dark berry flavors and a smooth, silky mouthfeel. This is wonderful stuff especially once it has some air. Chewy, grippy tannins lead into the very long, dry, lasting finish.

This is definitely not your typical simple Montepulciano but something much more complex and rewarding! I love it.
