Another day, another Napa Cab from Sam’s Club. We review the Member’s Mark Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot from 20 to 35 year-old vines in Napa Valley, California. The wine is aged in oak for an unspecified amount of time and it has 5.5 g/L of residual sugar.
Today we’ve got the last (for now) of the current Napa Cabernet offerings at Sam’s Club:
The wines in the line-up include:
- Member’s Mark Private Reserve Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
- Member’s Mark Private Reserve Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
- Member’s Mark Private Reserve True Oak Vineyard Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignon
- Member’s Mark Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Up last is the plain old Napa Valley Cabernet, which like the Stags Leap comes from Precision Wine Co and Trevor Sheenan. And while this one lacks the big name sub-appellation on the label, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as blends from different parts of the region can often be just as good or even better than those from a single area. And indeed, this one is sourced from a variety of excellent areas including Oakville, Calistoga, Rutherford and St. Helena.
Let’s check it out!
The 2022 Member’s Mark Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is available exclusively at Sam’s Club and retails for just $14.98.

The 2022 Member’s Mark Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens with strong, pleasing aroma of black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, baking spice and a bit of toasty oak. It’s a harmonious start.
The wine tastes rich and juicy and features similar flavors to the nose with good balance and depth. It has a smooth and lush mouthfeel and is also quite harmonious in the mouth. This would make for a great burger wine.
It ends dry, juicy, a bit grippy, and even a bit dusty on the very long finish. This is quite nice.
It wasn’t quite as good on day 2 after leaving it corked overnight on the counter, so I would take steps to preserve it if you don’t finish it on day 1.
