Until recently they were part of the same company as the Navigator Wine Collection who make the Howell Mountain bottling. Precision Wine Co also makes the regular Napa Valley bottling. The 2022 Member’s Mark Private Reserve Stags Leap District Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit oaky when first popped open so give it a couple hours to breathe – it makes a world of difference.
After a little air, the wine shows a very attractive, cohesive aroma of black cherry, blackberry and vanilla plus lots of lovely baking spice, violets and more. It’s a great start!
The wine tastes silky smooth, deep, dark and juicy with similar flavors to nose plus well-integrated spice and great balance. This is quite easy to drink but it also plenty of depth.
It ends dry, juicy, long, grippy and even a bit dusty and was just as good on day 2. This is excellent and a step up from the Howell Mountain Cab (the extra year of age helps, but this is just a nicer wine overall that is more representative of its subregion.)
