The 2014 Pertinace Barbera d’Alba begins with a very pleasing aroma of dark and red berries, spice, vanilla and red licorice. The wine tastes excellent with lots of fresh red fruit (strawberry, red cherry and raspberry) along with more licorice and spice. Add in good acidity and a smooth, silky mouthfeel and you’ve got a very nice example of Barbera at a great price. It ends long and dry with lingering candied cherry, vanilla and other oaky notes. We found that it makes a great match with spicy sausage pizza!
