Pertinace Barbera d’Alba – Impressive

By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: September 13, 2018

A perfect match with spicy sausage pizza at a great price, the Pertinace Barbera d’Alba.

Pertinace Barbera d'Alba - Impressive

100% Barbera from Piedmont, Italy. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for six months in large Slavonian oak casks.

Sample submitted for review. The Pertinace Barbera d’Alba is available for as low as $12. We’ve also spotted this one at Costco. Imported by MW Imports.

From the bottle:

The Pertinace winery is renowned for Piemonte excellence, expertly balancing a rich winemaking heritage with exceptional terroir and winemaking tradition and innovation. Composed of 100% hand-harvested Barbera grapes grown within the spectacular landscape of Alba, Pertinace Barbera d’Alba D.O.C. is rich, complex and superbly balanced with inviting notes of blackberry, plum and a hint of spice that build to long, elegant finish.

“We invite you to enjoy the unique terroir and flavors of Pertinace. We take great pride in bringing the best of Piedmont to your table. Salute.” – Cesare Barbero, Winemaker

14% Alcohol

The 2014 Pertinace Barbera d’Alba begins with a very pleasing aroma of dark and red berries, spice, vanilla and red licorice. The wine tastes excellent with lots of fresh red fruit (strawberry, red cherry and raspberry) along with more licorice and spice. Add in good acidity and a smooth, silky mouthfeel and you’ve got a very nice example of Barbera at a great price. It ends long and dry with lingering candied cherry, vanilla and other oaky notes. We found that it makes a great match with spicy sausage pizza!
