Puerta de Plata Reserva – A Solid Party Sipper

By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: January 28, 2020

Another tasty and affordable Spanish blend from Trader Joe’s, the Puerta de Plata Reserva.

Puerta de Plata Reserva – A Solid Party Sipper

60% Tempranillo and 40% Grenache from Catalunya, Spain. The wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.

The Puerta de Plata Reserva is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s (in the US) and sells for just $7.99. It is imported by Latitude Wines.

The wine is made by Vina Tridado who also produce the Trader Joe’s exclusives Vega del Origon Gran Reserva and the Satis Dei Syrah Garnacha. Today’s wine is actually pretty similar to the Satis Dei both in terms of the fancy bottle and the slightly sweet taste.

From the bottle:

60% Tempranillo, 40% Grenache. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months. Serve at 16-18C.

Ruby red in color with garnet tones. Its aroma is intense and reminds of ripe red fruits, cacao and vanilla. In the mouth it is opulent, full-bodied with a balance of minerals.

14% Alcohol

The 2013 Puerta de Plata Reserva opens with loads of sweet, jammy berry aromas along with touches of bubble gum, vanilla and spice. The easy to drink, medium-bodied wine tastes smooth and slightly sweet and is full of fruit in the mouth along with cola, spice, vanilla and perhaps even a bit of minerality. It ends dry and long. This is a solid, crowd-pleasing party sipper for just 8 bucks.
