The Best Sangiovese
Ah, Sangiovese (San-joh-veh-zeh)! The most widely planted grape in Italy and the backbone of such classic Italian wines as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and many Super Tuscans, this is one of our very favorite varieties. And while it's not widely planted outside of Italy there are a growing number of excellent examples coming from California. And we've got them all in our list of the best Sangiovese!
With its distinctive cherry and often rustic flavors, this medium-bodied, savory variety takes to oak aging very well. And just as you would expect it's fantastic with all kinds of Italian foods including pizza and pretty much anything in tomato-based sauces.
