Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cab – A Fine Find

By: Jon Thorsen Last Updated: December 23, 2019

Another excellently priced Napa Valley Cab from a famed sub-appellation, the Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 89.

Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cabernet - A Fine Find

Cabernet Sauvignon from Atlas Peak, Napa Valley, California.

The Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s and sells for just $14.99. [EDIT: For whatever reason, according to the Fearless Flyer article this wine is only available at stores outside California.]

Today we’ve got the second of the recently released Platinum Reserve Napa Valley Cabs from Trader Joe’s. (The first was the Rutherford version you can find here.) There’s no info on label except that like a lot of the Trader Joe’s wines, it is vinted and bottled by Behind The Scene Wine Company, Napa, CA. It has 14.5% Alcohol.

The 2017 Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 89 begins with a very pleasing aroma of black cherry, plum, plenty of spice and a little vanilla. Taking a sip reveals a smooth, medium-bodied Cab full of ripe and tart dark fruit, nicely integrated spice and touches of vanilla. Good acidity and chewy tannins lead into the dry, long and quite grippy finish.

This is another really nice Cab at this low price. Like the Rutherford it also needs quite a while to breathe at this young age to be at its best but once it opens up it is quite good! What’s with all these low price Cabs coming out of Napa? We delve into it a bit in our review of yet another $15 Napa Cab, this time from Aldi.
