Today we're back with another great deal from our friends at Winecrasher -- a deal so good that we can't reveal the label. (For more on the Winecrasher model see this post.) Today's wine hits a sweet spot for me as Southern Rhone style blends have always been some of my favorites. That said, let's check out how this example from the Central Coast of California tastes.
The 2013 [Name Withheld] California Coast Rhone Blend begins with loads of dark berry fruit aromas plus smoked meat, pepper, floral notes and lovely touches of dried herbs. It's a wonderfully enticing aroma for fans of Rhone-style GSM blends like me. Tasting the wine reveals plums, raspberry, cherry, a bit of cranberry, more smoked meat and dried herbs and even some earthiness in this smooth, medium-bodied wine. Everything just flows together nicely and naturally, making this blend a pleasure to drink. It ends dry with long lasting notes of black licorice and some underlying minerality that adds yet another dimension.
