A lighter style than our other Pinot bottlings, this wine reflects its name EX which means "out of or from" in Latin. These grapes are some of the first harvested and the wine is produced with minimal handling so that the result reflects a focus on the pure flavor of sustainably grown grapes from our estate San Saba Vineyard. Upfront cherry and spice aromas lead to flavors of red fruit, spice and a touch of earthiness all bound by clean tannins. Oak aging is kept to only 20% new so that there is some depth added from the barrels but the focus remains on the personality of our estate fruit.
Our Estate San Saba Vineyard is sheltered in a nook just below the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, roughly 25 miles southeast of the town of Monterey. Our climate is heavily influenced by the morning fog and afternoon winds from the nearby Pacific Ocean. This is a cool site with little rainfall and one of the longest growing seasons in the world. Our unusual climate allows us to produce ripe, concentrated wines of exceptional balance.

The 2018 Wrath EX Pinot Noir begins with an excellent aroma of earth and rhubarb plus black cherry, cola and touches of mushroom and spice.
Taking a sip reveals similar flavors to the nose with the earthiness continuing but also some really nice juicy fruit notes. This dry, light to medium-bodied wine also features good structure and good balance. It gets even better and more harmonious with time in the glass.
It ends dry and long with all the flavors from the palate lingering along with a touch of toasty oak and spice. This is an excellent Pinot Noir especially if you like a bit of earthiness. The whole thing might even be better on day 2.
