Lake County Wine! The Best Wines From Lake County
Lake County, in the North Coast AVA of California, has a vibrant and growing wine industry. The area is defined by Clear Lake, California's largest lake and its signature volcanic soils.
Lying to the north of Sonoma and to the west of Mendocino, the county has several sub-AVAs to watch for. The Clear Lake AVA and the Red Hills Lake County AVA are probably the most notable, but excellent wines under $25 can be found throughout the region with its lack of name recognition helping to keep prices down.
The volcanic soils, maritime effect of the lake, rain shadow of the Mayacama ,ountains and higher altitude all contribute to the unique (and splendid) growing conditions found here.
