Single vineyard Syrah from Argentina for just 8 bucks, we review the Trader Joe's Petit Reserve Uco Valley Syrah.
Single vineyard Syrah from the Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina.
This wine is available exclusively at Trader Joe's for just $7.99. It is imported by Evaki, Inc.
From the bottle:
Notes of ripe red fruits with a hint of spice.
Produced and Estate Bottled by Winery No. B-73548 Bodega Riglos
13.5% Alcohol
While the back label doesn't have much info, it does reveal the producer - Bodega Riglos. A quick check of their website shows that they have one estate vineyard, Finca Las Divas, which is located 4,265 feet above sea level in Tupungato, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina. It certainly sounds promising, especially at this low price, so let’s check out how it tastes.
The 2020 Trader Joe's Petit Reserve Uco Valley Syrah begins with an attractive aroma of dark fruit, spice and a little touch of smoked meat. It's apparent right from the start that all the components are here for a nice example of Syrah.
Tasting the wine reveals similar flavors to the nose with a smooth, round mouthfeel. It could use a bit more depth and complexity but it's definitely worth the 8 bucks. It's not quite as good as the K-Vine Syrah from Costco we recently reviewed but not it's too far off either.
It ends dry with decent length and a little spice under the fruit and was just as good on day 2.
This is a really nice budget Syrah. I wish we saw more Argentinean examples of this variety here in the U.S. because they can be quite good.
