An excellent example of the variety an an extremely low price, the Trader Joe’s Reserve Petit Verdot Lot 154.
Petit Verdot from Paso Robles, California. No other info is given on how the wine is made or the oak aging.
This wine is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s for just $9.99. It is vinted and bottled by Familia Nueva Vineyards who also produce several other Paso Robles wines for Trader Joe’s, like the Liberté Cabernet Sauvignon and the Lot 100 Reserve Syrah.
Juicy blackberry mixed with lavender on the palate with extremely soft supple tannins.
14.5% Alcohol
The 2018 Trader Joe’s Reserve Petit Verdot Lot 154 begins with a pleasing aroma of blackberry, plum, cedar, some herbal notes, a little spice and vanilla.
I wasn’t sure about this one when I first popped it open but a little air goes a long way. After some time in the glass it shows lots of dusty, chalky dark fruit with nice streaks of spice and vanilla and good acidity. Smooth and a bit tannic, this is really quite delicious and a great wine to stock up on.
It ends dry, grippy, long and savory. I really enjoy this variety and this is an excellent example at this low price.
Trader Joe’s also occasionally has a Grand Reserve Petit Verdot from Napa, which we also recommend, but I think we liked this one just about as much at $3 less.
