The Best Vinho Verde Wines
It's time to explore Portugal's biggest wine region, Vinho Verde!
Located just to the west of the famed Douro region (the home to Port wine) and to the south of Rías Baixas in Spain, Vinho Verde (pronounced veeng-yo vaird) is home to the delightful, sometimes fizzy, white wines that pair so well with seafood, summer and pocketbooks. (The latter since they generally retail in the $7 to $15 range.)
Most of the wine made here are white blends from the Alvarinho, Avesso, Azal, Arinto, Loureiro, and Trajadura grape varieties but you should also be on the lookout for the excellent single varietal bottlings. We cover both below in our list of The Best Vinho Verde Wines!
